TL/SCW- 8/30 Discussion
Techlink and SCW meet Wednesday 8/30 to discuss ongoing issues with install quality and technicians.
Lignetics
Install began 4/10/23.
“Hey Jonathan,
I reviewed the Lignetics photos, and these are the issues that I saw:
Camera 4: Exposed cabling, EMB Knockout left open.
Camera 13: Cable pathway is messy above camera location. Needs more support, run diagonally.
Camera 17: Cable pathway is messy. Needs more support, follow the beams.
Camera 20: Did the technician supply that bracket and is it zip-tied to that beam?
Camera 21: Service-loop has the cabling doubled back- bend radius issue possibly.
Camera 22: Cable isn't supported past the service loop.
Camera 23: Cable not supported, zipped to conduit- code violation.
Camera 24: Knockout is open.
Camera 27: Cable not supported. Use the beam to support and hide until camera location.
Cameras 28,29: Knockouts open, cable not supported.
Scrubber Building Switch: Ubiquiti equipment zip-tied to existing conduit. Code violation.
Storage Switch: Cable trunkline needs Velcro, UB equipment zip-tied to existing conduit. Code violation.I hate to say it, but some of these mistakes make me wonder what's going on with the cabling behind these exterior walls that the cameras are mounted on. When the technician returns to tidy these mistakes, can you please have them take some more pictures of cable pathways?
Did the technician throw away those missing knockouts from the electrical mounting boxes? If so, the link I sent for the weatherproof connectors used at New Wave Capital should work for these cameras as well.
Thanks.”
Certificate of Completion sent 5/18/23.
New Wave Capital
Hi Calver/Sam,
I'm sending this to both of you as I'm not sure who is the right person for this. The installers "finished" the installation the other night, but I have to admit that I'm a little disappointed. Honestly completely not what I was expecting. Please see attached photo of the wiring that was installed in the hallways of the building. I was always under the impression that the wiring would be covered with some sort of wire mold. We have a similar thing outside which I don't mind as much but it's just not what I was expecting. Can we get on a call to discuss this on Monday? I don't want to leave the wiring exposed like this. I'm a little disappointed by the camera angles/locations as well. We didn't achieve the overlap in the cameras as we had discussed when putting this together. Example is attached.
Hey Techlink,
This is a clear example of Techlink installs costing SCW projects/time/resources and TL your reputation. The attached photos are of New Wave Capital after multiple remediation trips to fix the poor initial installation. I have spent a lot of time and effort relaying to TL PM's how these connectors work and how these cameras need to be installed. This is completely unacceptable.
The POC is set to be on site Monday to review this and sign off.The technician still couldn't figure out the connectors. Some of the cameras have the connectors installed, but the cable not running through them.
Why is there blue Cat6 running outside with outdoor cable when the entire install was done with outdoor cable? That is a code violation that anyone could identify immediately.
Some of the cameras still have an opening to the electrical box mount.
What is going to be done to fix this before the POC arrives on Monday?
I think this goes without saying, but please blacklist this technician from any and all SCW work going forward.
And I'm 100% certain we have lost all hope of repeat business with this client.
We can talk about the billing once these blatant and inexcusable mistakes are fixed.

Techlink,
I just noticed some extremely poor cabling issues with almost every interior camera that needed to be addressed during that return trip. Seems like they have little to no understanding on how to properly run and support low voltage cabling in accordance with code and industry best practices. There is some pretty good info on low voltage cabling in our Certification Course, but I don't think Jonathan Johnson is enrolled.
Strapped to conduit.
Cracked a ceiling tile and laid it on top of the cable.
No service loops.
No straight lines or 90 degree turns.
Didn't utilize support beams or joists.
All the pigtails and terminations are exposed.
This is an extremely unacceptable quality of work to try and pass off and had I not reviewed the photos today, it would have been moved to "in-review" to close out. I do my best to try and catch everything so I can let you all know before it's too late, but I need you to be vigilant and keep an eye out for shoddy workmanship like this. That's part of managing the technicians.
Please get with the technician and review these photos. I'd like to hear what they have to say about it.
Hey TL,
The technician returned 8/18 to take care of some issues I surfaced last week with cabling and camera mounting. We were assured during our meeting that these were all progress photos and the issues would be taken care of during that return trip.
The photos on the work order posted 8/18 are surely to review for completion, but there are still some pretty blatant issues:
Every camera mounted below a ceiling tile- the tech simply broke off the corner of the tile, left the cable exposed and the tile covered in fingerprints (see attached).
That leaves us pretty concerned about the aspects of the install that aren't shown in the posted pictures. When can we return to replace these damaged ceiling tiles and properly mount those cameras?
Hey Jonathan,
Looks like they found some spare/unused Panduit parts to add instead of fixing the actual issue (see attached).
Please take a look at this link for instructions on installing a camera in a ceiling tile: How to Install a Dome Camera on a Ceiling Tile - Installation Guide by SCW (getscw.com)
What can I do to ensure this gets fixed properly?
When can we expect that to happen?
Location Approval: Yes
View Approval: Yes
Network Information Deliverable: No
Hey Cal,
The site PoC requested that these two cameras be mounted on the wall, not on the acoustic tiles. We've replaced the broken acoustic tiles and cleaned off all handprints/scuff marks.
Thank you,
William Hixson- US Navy (Installation #1)
Hey guys,
Attached are some photos of the wire mold installed for William Hixson. It looks like the techs just didn't install the included elbow connectors that come with the wire-mold kits. They are not too happy with the exposed cabling there. We need to get another elbow and cover the bend.
Thanks.
Johnson Health Tech- North America
Hey guys,
I noticed some issues and code violations in the photos for Johnson Health Tech. See attached.
Please let me know asap when the technician can make it back out to correct the cabling and mounting. I'd like to reach out to Ryan with an update as soon as I have that info.
Thanks.
Leftridge Transportation
Original technician drilled a ton of unnecessary holes to fish across a hard lid ceiling instead of cutting an access hatch. This required a drywall technician to complete and the installation is still ongoing.
ViWinTech
Hey Kris, - I'm also pretty concerned that the client decided to keep one of his older cameras in lieu of replacing it with one of the cameras from the quote, but we never got a refund change order and no notes about it in our project card or the work order. Does Lee still have the camera or was it left with the client?
Hey Cal, -The change by site to remove two cameras and move an old camera was something that I was not informed of until now. It was changed by the POC, but that should have gone through us first. It has clearly been stated how changes of scope need to happen in the future. Both cameras are still on site.

Hey Matt,
I'm reviewing the work order from our most recent install at the Middleton location. I have photos of the completed work, but I'm missing a deliverable from the tech on camera view approval.
Can I confirm that you've signed off on the final views for that project?
I've gone ahead and issued a Certificate of Completion for the project. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns around the install or the system.
Thanks.
Calver-
The camera “C” in the attached wasn’t placed where I originally wanted (and was confirmed in the scope of work) because the tech told me we had a drywall ceiling.
I reminded him we always had a drywall ceiling and wondered why this wasn’t an issue before during the site visit.
Anyway, we agreed on another location – not the view I wanted but good enough.
I will view and sign the completed form shortly.
Thanks,
Riviera Place Apartments/ Scotch Hollow
Technician completed the outdoor installation with wireless equipment and NEMA enclosures using typical Riser cable. 6/14/23.
Epic City Real Estate Services
Multiple tech groups and project close-out attempts over 9-month span.
Inaccurate updates by TL Technician relayed to SCW by TL PM’s.
National Conference of State Legislature
No electrical mounting boxes installed/ damaged mounting surfaces.
Issue noticed by SCW PM, brought to TL PM’s attention.
Water-Line Renewal- Delaware:
No electrical mounting boxes installed.
Terminations exposed.
Issue noticed by SCW PM, brought to TL PM’s attention.
Clearway Energy
Some issues with existing equipment and CO’s, extending the project considerably.
The (2) most recent trips were to install a pair of wireless antennas added to replace an existing pair. Each trip has resulted in damaged antenna pairs, and we believe it’s because the technicians aren’t following directions.
