Why set up the NVR First?

The NVR is the single most important component of an SCW system and we prefer installing the NVR and head-end equipment first.

Setting up the NVR first has a number of important benefits:

  • allows access to the mobile app making it easier to aim cameras as you mount them

  • allows SCW Technical Support to setup remote access while you complete other tasks

  • ensures that any issues with the customer network or ISP are identified early in the project, allowing time to identify anything additional that you need from the client (help from their IT team, for example) without holding up project completion

Setup Steps

  • Install the NVR in the agreed up on space
This may be a Shelf, Network Cabinet, Server Rack, Vertical Wall Mount, etc. Refer to your SCW document for guidance if you’re unsure.
  • Connect the NVR to the client network
Client will verify a router/ switch port that they will want the NVR connected to. If that router/ switch port is in a different location than where the NVR is mounted, complete the cable-run from the NVR to that location.
  • Connect your laptop to the same network as the NVR
  • Call SCW Technical Support at (828)565-1205
Let SCW know you are completing an installation for our Project Management Team. They may ask you to provide the WO# and/or site address. They may also remote into your laptop.
  • Have Tech support walk you through the steps of adding a camera to the NVR.
This will ensure that you’re able to smoothly add and aim cameras as you install them throughout the project.
  • Have Tech Support take you to the QR Code Page for adding the NVR to the Software via P2P
A photo of the QR Code will need to be uploaded to the work order for the installation to be considered complete.
