Whether the equipment was shipped directly to site or to the technician, it is important to go through boxes and make sure that the products you have match the packing slip and the Scope of Work Document from the work order. Once you have verified that all the equipment is accounted for, it is time to Bench Test.
Bench testing is the process of testing equipment prior to being installed and it reduces the amount of troubleshooting you may have at a job site if issues arise. Simply power on the recorder and plug in each camera using pre-made patch cables. If the cameras are discoverable from the NVR or your laptop, then you have confirmed the equipment is functional. Remember, bench testing does not necessarily have to take place at the job site.
