Pre-Work Phase

Meet with POC (Point of Contact) and align Project Expectations

Upon arriving on site, it is important to make contact with the designated POC (Point of Contact) if they are available.

This person will be responsible for signing off on the Location Approval Form, the View Approval Form, and ultimately the Certificate of Completion.

They will need viewing software setup on their PC and/ or Mobile Device.

Make a friendly introduction and explain what is required of them during the installation:

  • Signing off on the Location Approval Form, the View Approval Form, and the Certificate of Completion.

  • Working with the technician and SCW tech support to set up their Remote Viewing Software (SCW Go for mobile devices, SCW ViewStation for PC). It would be helpful to

If possible, have the POC agree on a date/time that they will be available to set up their devices.

  • Calling into SCW tech support for additional training on the system and software.

Complete Location Approval Form

The Location Approval Form for your specific installation will have been uploaded to the work order as a Required Closeout Document.

Note

Don’t forget to print this document prior to arriving on site

Walk through the site with the customer and review the approved locations for each camera, getting them to sign-off on them as you go.

The signed and completed Location Approval Form must be uploaded to the work order as a Required Closeout Document. It is necessary for a completed installation.

Warning

No out-of-scope work should be done unless SCW has a signed change order from the POC.

  • Verifying Equipment Shipped/ Bench Test Equipment: Whether the equipment was shipped directly to site or to the technician, it is important to go through boxes and make sure that the products you have match the packing slip and the Scope of Work Document from the work order. Once you have verified that all the equipment is accounted for, it is time to Bench Test.

    • Bench testing is the process of testing equipment prior to being installed and it reduces the amount of troubleshooting you may have at a job site if issues arise. Simply power on the recorder and plug in each camera using pre-made patch cables. If the cameras are discoverable from the NVR or your laptop, then you have confirmed the equipment is functional. Remember, bench testing does not necessarily have to take place at the job site. If you are in possession of the cameras before the installation starts, you can perform this step before you set foot on the job site.

  • NVR Setup and Provisioning: The NVR is the single most important component of the system. For SCW camera system installations, we prefer installing the NVR and head-end equipment first. Setting up the NVR first allows access to the mobile app and can aid in aiming cameras. It can also allow SCW Technical Support to setup remote access while you complete other tasks. Once the NVR has been installed in the agreed upon space (Shelf, Network Cabinet, Server Rack, Vertical Wall Mount, etc.), connect to the network, and power on. Give SCW Technical Support a call at (828) 352-2242 and let them know that you are completing an install for our Project Management Team. You will need to have your laptop powered on and connected to the same network as the recorder so our Tech Support agents will be able to remote in and complete the NVR’s provisioning.

    • Have SCW Tech Support walk you through the steps of adding a camera to the NVR. This will aid in adding and aiming each camera as you install.

    • Have SCW Tech Support take you to the QR Code Page for adding the NVR to the Software via P2P. A photo of the QR Code will need to be uploaded to the work order for the installation to be considered complete.

  • Setting up your IDF’s: Some sites will require additional switches or other network equipment to transmit a signal from the cameras back to the NVR. These locations will have been agreed upon prior to the start of the installation and will ensure no cable segments exceed 700ft. Whether it be network switches or Ubiquiti wireless antennas, it is important to install this equipment next. Network switches will require a cable run back to the head-end equipment or the NVR. For more information on Ubiquiti antenna setup, follow their installation guide and visit https://scw.atlassian.net/l/cp/EdeRDCUX.

  • Cabling and Camera Installation: Once all of your network equipment is in place, you can move on to cabling and installing the cameras based on the sitemap that has been provided.

    • Use best practices to route, support, and protect cabling.

    • Use the correct cable type for each section of the site (Riser, Plenum, Outdoor/ Direct Burial).

    • Mount all cameras using the electrical mounting box provided specific to each camera model. Make sure that any areas susceptible to water damage are sealed.

    • Refer to our website for more information on cabling/ camera installation: Guides on How to Install Security & CCTV Cameras | SCW (getscw.com).

    • Since you have installed and provisioned the NVR first, you can now use the SCW Go Mobile App to aim cameras as you install them. Simply plug the camera in using its designated port on the NVR or network switch, add the newly installed camera to the system, and aim the camera using the App on your phone. This will save you the time of re-visiting each camera once they have all been installed.

  • Setting up Remote Viewing Software: During your introduction to the POC, you should have agreed on a time to set up their devices with SCW’s Remote Viewing Software. You will be responsible for making sure their PCs are set up with SCW ViewStation and their phone/tablet is set up with SCW Go.
